June 6 to 8th: Amnesty International Canada AGM in Toronto

We are delighted to announce that the Amnesty International Canadian Section (English Speaking) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 6-8, 2025. The AGM will be held in person on the unceded ancestral lands of Tkaronto (Toronto).

As outlined in our Strategic Plan 2022-2030, our ways of working together must radically evolve to respond to current events and the rollback of human rights protections in North America and worldwide.

We invite our members, activists, volunteers and human rights allies to join us as we continue the important work of engagement and governance.

This year’s AGM will be a conference-style event featuring a range of activism, education and governance sessions. These forums will allow us to come together and foster a sense of shared purpose. By working together, we can strengthen our regional networks and better align our future AGM model to be financially and environmentally sustainable.

In the upcoming weeks, you will receive information about accommodation and travel, along with invitations to participate or volunteer. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch.

MEMBERSHIP
Make sure your membership is up to date! Only Amnesty members are eligible to move and second resolutions, run for election, nominate candidates, and vote in the election. To participate in governance activities, your membership must start 30 days before the AGM. The deadline to become a member and join the 2025 AGM is May 6, 2025.

RESOLUTIONS
Resolutions, including amendments to the By-laws or Standing Orders, may be submitted by any member of the Branch and by the Board of Directors (in accordance with Article 6.05 c of By-law No. 1). Previously, the support of 5 additional members was required. This is no longer necessary according to our new By-laws. View our Resolution Guidelines for more details. Any questions can be directed to the Resolutions Committee.

The deadline for resolutions is midnight on March 8, 2025, in your respective time zone (90 days prior to the AGM). Resolutions received after that deadline may be considered by the AGM if two-thirds of those registered for the AGM agree to accept them for discussion.
